Learning to Accept Reality

In life things are bound to happen that we can't control. Things like our plans not working out, or accidents, or people dying are all situations that we cannot control. I think where we go wrong is thinking that we are the only person in the world that has to deal with the unfairness of life. The truth of the matter is everyone has a "life isn't fair" moment, and once we realize that then it will be easier to accept what's going on in our life and, if we don't like it, change it.

The wisest thing that someone said to me was, "if you don't like something then change it". I was 19 and had just moved to L.A. When my first plan fell through I didn't know what to do, and I was a little sour about having to move to plan b. Now I was so cocky that when I moved to the west coast, I didn't have a plan b. I thought everything was going to fall into place, and when it didn't I just pouted and put my life on standby. Then the woman who I was living with said those words to me, and I had an epiphany! We may not have control of what's going on in our lives, but we do have control over how we deal with it. I was sitting there wasting time being upset that life wasn't fair, when instead I could've been doing something to make my situation better. Once I learned that and acted accordingly then things started to turn around for me. I got a job, enrolled into community college, and got my own place. Everything didn't always go right (in fact there was a time when everything was going wrong), but I didn't play the victim. I just accepted things as they were and made adjustments to the things that were unfavorable, whether I wanted to or not. You don't have to throw a bitch fit every time something goes wrong in life. You don't even have to show that you're upset. Life will be a lot easier though once you start to take initiative and make provisions to ensure that you will get the outcome that you want.

The biggest lesson that you have to learn in life is to accept everything that is thrown your way. You may not get the job you want. Oh well there's a better job out there for you, but you're not going to find it if you're bitter over getting rejected by the last job. Wasting time is the worst thing that you can do because time is our most precious resource. The faster we accept that the easier life will be.
