Got Happy?

It seems as if everyone is on the journey to find happiness. They believe obtaining certain things and statuses in life will bring them the happiness that they deserve. However, when those things fade away (and they all will fade away) so does the joy they once brought. So the question is, how do you obtain and keep your happiness? The answer is quite simple to me: Gratefulness. Usually people wonder around and search for happiness because they are not satisfied with what they already have. Instead of complaining about what we don't have, why don't we be thankful for what we do have? Now I am not rich nor do I have more resources than the average person, but if I were to sit down and write about all the things that I am afforded in life and the things that I have, I would quickly realize that I am very blessed beyond measure. Just the fact that I woke up in my right mind this morning is enough to make me thankful and allow me to be joyful for the rest of the day. It may sound cliche, but, seriously, I forget about all the things I don't have because I am too busy giving thanks for what I do have, and that brings me pure joy! Consequently, as material things come and go throughout my life I will choose to stay grounded in my happiness because at least I am alive to experience it all, and that is enough to keep me smiling until the day my heart stops beating.

If It Ain't Broke, Break it

Do you ever wonder why things aren't happening to you the way you planned? From the outside it seems as if you should have it all, but when you look at your accomplishments you barely have anything to show. Well then that means there's something in your life that needs to be broken. I'm sure you all have heard the saying "if it ain't broken then don't fix it", but sometimes if it ain't broke then it may need to be broken.

I received this message at church today, and at first when I heard the title I was in doubt of what direction the sermon was going in. However, five minutes in, I quickly began to change my opinion. The thing is that we all have a calling that we are meant to fulfill in life, like writing, singing, starting a business, or teaching for some of us. Once we know what our purpose is it is up to us to do the necessary work needed to get there. If we aren't where we want to be in life but we are putting in the work and everything seems to be in place, then there is a HUGE problem. Part of our responsibility is to go beyond observation and investigate to see what that problem is. As a part of life there are things that we must grow out of if we want to grow up. Just because it seems to be working in our lives right now doesn't mean it will work with the life we are meant to have. For example, if you were to conduct an investigation on your life, and the choices and actions you make or the people you surround yourself with now does not mix well with what you want for yourself in the future, then you will need to break it; Even if it does not appear to be broken it still needs breaking. Bad habits, unnecessary friendships, and other things that aren't in line with our calling that could hold us back need to be given the boot in order for us to move forward. It may be difficult to break away from complacency, but the habits and people that we leave behind will be replaced with something that will better aid us in what we are set out to accomplish.

But on the other hand, if we believe that we are perfect and nothing we do deserves to be broken then we are denying ourselves the opportunity to face our rightful destiny. I definitely don't want that to happen, so I will be doing some soul-searching and praying tonight. Remember that your steps are already ordered. It is your job to follow the path already laid out for you.

Words of Wisdom...

Sometimes you just don't have to have an answer for things.Your steps are already ordered, so you don't need to worry about how you're going to get from point A to B. Just keep on doing what you believe is right.

On Your Mark. Get Set. Go!

I stumbled upon wisdom today while talking to a very good friend of mine. Now this girl embodies positivity and is exactly the type of person you want on your team because she gives such amazing advice! Today she blessed me with the simple phrase "run your own race". Meaning, don't worry about other people and why it may be happening for them faster than it's happening to you. Everyone has their own timeline, and it's unfair to compare yourself to other people in that sense. I know sometimes it may seem like your peers are doing a 100 meter relay while you are trying to complete a decathlon. Your race may take months or years to complete, while it may take someone else days. However, your life goes according to how you live it, not how everyone else is living theirs. So if you are not where you want to be in life, don't worry because your race is not over yet. The longer you run the larger your prize will be at the finish line. I hope this has encouraged you all to finish the relay that you're running because it has been such an inspiration to me. On your mark. Get set. GO!

Excuse Me?!

Haters come in various forms. There are the haters that are easy to spot because they will flat out say that you can't do something and not support you. On the other hand, there are those who pose as "friends" giving good advice. Those are the more sneaky ones because they will give you an excuse as to why you can't be successful in order to plant a seed of doubt which eventually turns into self-destruction. They may even be delusional enough to think that they are helping you out, but the reality is they want you to fail. Here's a personal example that happened to me today and inspired me to write this post. Someone very close to me told me that with the way the economy is today, I shouldn't expect to live my dream. They said I should just stay working for the corporation that I currently work for because I'll be more secure that way. Now maybe they thought it was good advice because they made mistakes and they wished someone had told them the same thing when they were younger, however that was unsolicited BAD advice! Excuse me?!? Who in God's precious green Earth told you to make up excuses for me as to why I shouldn't go after my dreams? If I wanted to, I could make excuses myself but I don't; therefore, I don't need anyone to do it for me. I believe that no matter what adversities life may through your way, if it was meant to be then it is going to be.

Here's a word of advice for the Night Crawlers out there: If you have people like that around you, don't let them know your aspirations, and don't let them too close into your life. Misery loves company, and they want you to be their guest of honor. Be aware of the people you let in your personal life, even if it is family. Believe it or not, not everyone has the best intentions for you just because you are related. I realize that saying that might pluck some feathers, but it is true. Replace them with people who genuinely care about you and your goals. If you surround yourself with positive energy you will create an environment of growth.

Or in other words, as Kevin G. put it (insert Mean Girls quote here), "don't let the haters stop you from doin' your thang."

Helping Hands

An aerial view of the storm damage over the Atlantic Coast is seen in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy in Seaside Heights, New Jersey October 31, 2012. The U.S. Northeast began an arduous slog back to normal on Wednesday after historic storm Sandy crippled transportation, knocked out power for millions and killed at least 64 people with a massive storm surge that caused epic flooding. With everything that's going on with Hurricane Sandy's aftermath in the northeastern parts of the United States, it's only fair that we exhaust all options provided to us in order to lend a helping hand. The Boston Globe estimates that the damage cost by the storm is somewhere around the 50 billion dollar mark. Along with power outages and gas shortages, which are temporary obstacles, the most relief will be needed when it comes back to rebuilding the buildings, roads, bridges, and landmarks that were destroyed. So lend a helping hand, and donate what you can to a charity that's committed to providing relief to the victims of Hurricane Sandy. Keep in mind that these people also lost things that cannot be replaced by monetary donations, such as loved ones, so if you are not able to give money, at least give the gift of prayer. Thank you for your support, and keep hope alive.

American Red Cross
Salvation Army
The Humane Society of the United States (for all you animal lovers out there)

Sleep is 4 Suckers Spotlight!

We are always happy when we hear that our supporters are doing big things and making their dreams come true. It's even more amazing to receive success stories about people who have been supporting Sleep is 4 Suckers since day one. This month's Sleep is 4 Suckers Spotlight is on Danielle Jeter, CEO of Affairs of Isis Events and one of the early supporters of Sleep is 4 Suckers.

Danielle attended Spelman College in Atlanta, Ga. in 2006, and while she was earning her bachelor's degree in History, she launched her event planning company, Affairs of Isis Events. Since its establishment in 2009, Affairs of Isis has been heavily involved in the public circut through youth education and arts initiatives. Jeter acknowledges her humble attributes, "My life’s work is based on helping others. I would not be where I am today if people were not willing to help me. If I could help someone else accomplish a goal or reach a dream, then my mission in life is fulfilled. Life is about loving, sharing, helping and caring for another human being.”

With that type of kindheartedness it's no surprise that her business is thriving and moving from Atlanta to the Philadelphia and Tri-state area. What better way to celebrate and create awareness by throwing a party? The private event is called ‘The City of Lights’, and it will take place November 8th at The Philadelphia Magic Gardens located on South Street. The purpose of the event is to give guests a chance to learn about Affairs of Isis and the services they provide. There will also be refreshments, a celebratory toast, and live music by DJ Greg Nitty and The Band from Willingboro, NJ.

Affairs of Isis takes the event visions of clients, gives them life, and turns ideas into magical affairs that are unforgettable. Services rendered include event planning, production, management, auditing, and staffing for events of all kinds. For more information and inquiries about their services visit them at http://www.affairsofisisevents.com/

We are so proud of Danielle Jeter for loosing countless hours of sleep for doing something that she loves to do. As you can see, she is starting to see reward, and she is getting closer to living the dream she has only dreamt. Congratulations Danielle!
