Change

In life nothing is ever constant. Things are forever changing. In fact Greek philosopher Heraclitus once said, "nothing endures but change". The way things are now isn't the way is going to be 5 years from now, so we must keep up. It's important that we stay with the time and keep adapting to our ever-changing environment because if we don't then we risk the chance of being outdated. That's why flexibility is the one of the main qualities that successful people have. They figure in order to stay on top, they must adapt to the pace of their environment. When the economy started doing bad a lot of high end retail stores plummeted in their sales. Nordstrom, an upscale department store in the U.S., adapted to the change in the economy by promoting and opening up more stores of their clearance store, Nordstrom Rack. People still wanted designer goods even if they couldn't afford them; therefore, having a store that offered high end merchandise at bargain prices was genius. It allowed them to rake in more sales than their competitors (Bloomingdales, Lord and Taylor, and Saks Fifth Avenue), keep their customer base, and also cater to the new type of budget conscious consumer. No one likes a person who is stuck in their own ways and refuses to change. Sure, change can be a bit scary, but it's necessary in order to move forward in life. Be the change you need for yourself, for the future, and for the benefit of others.
